A little bit about me

I like to work with creative people, people who care and brands that want to make a difference. It’s incredibly important to me that what I do adds value to my clients and their community. Value that will benefit their business, brand or organisation in the long run and that we continue to work together. When I work with a client, I’m working for them, with their goals and best interests at the forefront, thinking about their services and who they serve.

I live and work from a wooden house on the outskirts of a rural village in the Weald of Kent. When I’m not at my desk, I’m probably in the kitchen or walking my dog.

Why “WriteCloud”?

When I started freelancing back in 2009, I wanted a name that summed up the remote/virtual aspect as well as having a nod to the writing element, as I was primarily marketing myself as a copywriter back then. I also thought I needed a business name to sound more professional. If I started again, I might just go with my own name.

2009

How it started

I started my freelance journey back in 2009 after having my second child. I wanted to find valued and challenging work that was flexible enough to fit around my family — the world of work was completely different back then, so finding flexible and remote jobs was almost impossible. Thankfully, I accidentally fell into copywriting and took on the odd copywriting project along with some distance learning to support the move.

2011

How it went

The relentless cycle of finding and pitching for copywriting projects was really hard to juggle around a family, but by 2011 I grabbed an opportunity that allowed me to grow my business into home-based admin support. At the time, the term ‘Virtual Assistant’ or ‘VA’ was unknown to me and it was actually unknown to the client, too, they just knew they needed reliable, flexible support. Being a remote organisation themselves, employing someone to work in their office just wasn’t an option.

2021

How it's going

I now work as a freelance content manager and freelance community manager. In some cases, I continue to work with some of the same clients, but where the role has developed with them over time and with experience, so has my service offering. What does that look like now? For one, I might be managing a membership platform, writing and distributing internal and external comms, and managing subscriptions, advertising and events. For another, content management covering omni-channel strategy, creation and implementation while working with a social media coordinator and website team.
